How we started
We had increasing numbers of new residents from overseas. We identified that they were having trouble at such places as shopping centers. So we thought it would be great if we could do something for and with them. We found out there was a need to have useful and practical Japanese lessons, so we started the Japanese class.
Workshops
Staff meeting (2-3 times a year). Lecture on teaching Japanese to enhance teacher’s ability. Participation at such seminars such as the COOP Volunteer Seminar. We hope to participate in the National Volunteer Conference.
Other Activities
Tutoring school children, supporting women expecting babies, Language Salon, Introducing the Information Center, short trip, chit-chat Tea Salon, parties etc. cooperating and attending consolidated lessons at elementary schools and regional exchange events.
Strength/Features
Our members, young and old, men and women, feel at home at the club. We are always trying to find the best way to support them; if we hear that someone needs help, we try to find out what exactly s/he needs, so that we don’t appear to be pushy or too much for him/her. Since many of us are housewives, we know a lot about child care and education, regardless of our nationality. We're also so glad that members of the club become friends on a social basis too.
